SINGLE SERVER COLOCATION
Single server colocation services provide any company (large or small) with a fantastic alternative to hosting servers in their office environment. Generally speaking, most corporate office parks and commercial buildings are more susceptible to unannounced, extended power and connectivity outages however this can easily be avoided by moving critical systems to a fully redundant datacenter location that is accessible from anywhere, anytime, day or night.

Our multiple points of presence is data centers around the DC area give Mosaic the flexibility that you need to find the right home for your servers. Whereas some datacenters will require you to purchase a whole rack just to house a single server, we can provide colocation for single servers up through your entire network infrastructure.
Since Mosaic allows for shared server cabinet usage (purchasing fractional space in a cabinet that also contains other clients’ server equipment) we can provide you with space for individual servers without the cost of an entire secure cabinet. Rackmount-ready equipment is designed to fit within industry standard sizing—the rackmount unit or “U”. In shopping for equipment, you will find that the form factor of the equipment chassis is designated as “1U”, “2U”, “4U” etc. This tells you exactly how many rack space units are required to accommodate that server. Therefore, determining your total rack space requirements is a simple matter of adding up all the form factors of all of your equipment. Private server cabinet spaces will vary in size slightly by manufacturer, but generally, you will have 21U of available space in a half cabinet and 42U of available space in a full cabinet.
Rackspace fees are associated with the number of total rackspace units being consumed within a cabinet at the datacenter. Ranging from 1U to a full rack, this measurement is generally the height of the server(s) being hosted. Most servers come in either 1U or 2U configurations, however some servers with a large amount of storage capacity can be as big as 3U or 4U in size. If you also have other networking equipment such as switches, firewalls or other gear that needs to be stored in the cabinet, they will also be part of the equation.
Calculating power needs for server colocation involves several key steps. First, determine the total power consumption of all the servers and networking equipment you plan to colocate. This information is typically available in the equipment’s specifications or can be measured using a power meter. Next, account for redundancy and future growth by adding a safety margin to your power requirements, usually around 20% to 30%.
Once you have the total power estimate, it is important to keep power density in mind. There are specific guidelines for watts per square foot or meter. You must ensure that your equipment’s power requirements align with the available power density to avoid overloading power circuits. Mosaic determines the cost for power usage based on kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed so accurate calculation of your power needs is crucial to ensure your colocation arrangement meets your performance and budgetary requirements while avoiding unexpected power-related issues.
Mosaic provides unmetered bandwidth connectivity in virtually any capacity required. Ranging from 1 Mbps to 10 Gbps and beyond…we can deliver reliable, redundant connectivity. We can also provide stretch layer 2, point to point, MPLS and other connections from our datacenter facilities to your place of business so you can maintain a high level of secure business continuity. Additionally, our bandwidth can be easily scaled up or down as required so you always have as much connectivity as your business demands.
There are many ways that you can establish Remote Access to your servers while they are being hosted in the datacenter facility. It is very important to ensure you have remote management capabilities for your server, such as IPMI or iDRAC, to perform maintenance and troubleshooting tasks remotely.
The ability to access your equipment is essential as it allows administrators to access, monitor, and manage servers and infrastructure from anywhere, enabling rapid response to issues and reducing downtime. This remote capability enhances efficiency, ensures timely maintenance, and minimizes the need for physical presence, especially in critical situations or for geographically dispersed systems.
Additionally, Mosaic also provide Remote/Smart Hands services as well as Engineering Services which can be used in the event you lose remote access to your equipment and want to avoid making an on-site visit to the data center.
Mosaic offers a number of datacenter locations throughout the DC Metro area and beyond. Depending your requirements, we will do our best to locate your server(s) in a facility that is geographically convenient to your business. Additionally, you will have 24/7/365 on-site access to any of your equipment for the entire duration of your colocation agreement with Mosaic.
Yes. Mosaic can provide both on-site and remote backup and disaster recovery services. The location requirements and frequency along with the amount of data being backed up will dictate the costs for this service.
Both on-site and remote backups are crucial for comprehensive data protection. On-site backups provide quick access to data in case of local failures, while remote backups serve as a safety net, ensuring data recovery even in the event of catastrophic incidents like fires, floods, or cyberattacks that could impact the on-site backups.
Yes. Mosaic has a very specific SLA that governs its services and how they are delivered. The SLA can be found by clicking the SLA link at the bottom of our website. The SLA outlines all the specifics of our services, however you should also be aware of our Acceptable Use and Privacy policies as well as our overarching Terms of Service as well.
As soon as you have all the information related to the amount of space, power, bandwidth and related services (such as backup, engineering, etc) that you will require from Mosaic, you can bring the information to our team, and we will quickly produce a written quote based on the specs provided that will outline all the costs involved. There is typically a non-recurring charge (NRC) needed to get your services ready for use, and a monthly recurring charge (MRC) for the actual services being used. Once the agreement is signed, the NRC will be processed, the facility will be prepared for your equipement and upon installation and testing of the installed equipment, your MRCs would start on the date services begin.
All colocation agreement typically work on a 12-month minimum term, with month-to-month terms thereafter, however longer terms (24 and 36-months) can be arranged. If you are interested, we can also provide a copy of our colocation services agreement prior to entering into any contract for services.
